We visited the pulmonologist yesterday and things are now moving forward. He ordered another set of chest x-rays to see her lungs today, not two months ago and saw some evidence of the "virus" or whatever it was. He put her on Flovent (an asthma steroid) for 30 days to see if that helps her start to open her airways. He thinks that she is silently aspirating, meaning that she is still getting liquids into her lungs, but just doesn't cough. So, those little particles are probably causing an irritation, thus causing her oxygen saturation levels to be low. His primary diagnosis is Hypoxemia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoxemia) which basically means she isn't fully exhaling. So, from here he has ordered a blood gas, to see what her oxygen vs. carbon monoxide levels are. A Modified Barium Swallow, which will show if she is silently aspirating. He aslo has referred us to a cardiologist as he thought from the x-rays he thought her "plumbing was very prominant" and since she has had some breath holding/passing out spells, he didn't want to ignore it. So, tomorrow morning at 11:00am we go get her blood gas and then at 2:00pm we go to get her echocardiogram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_cardiogram) and another test I can't remember right now.
